Dougong Bracket Sets Shape Grammars

Abstract

Dougong is a major structural element in traditional Chinese architecture. Dougong sets have a variety of shapes and designs depending on the importance of a building. Constructing 3D models of Dougong manually is a time-consuming and challenging task. This paper presents Dougong shape grammars for fast modeling \ of Dougong sets so that Dougong sets can be modeled either interactively \ or automatically. In this study, we develop Dougong shape grammars to describe the assembling process of Dougong sets. Dougong shape grammars are encoded using XML. AWebGL-based system is developed for parsing shape grammars for user interaction \ and fast construction.
